You should be able to use a computer proficiently. Most scheduling programs are on computer systems and you should know how to use them. However, if you don’t know how to use them, relax -- most systems are easy to learn!

When you work as a receptionist it is important to be able to get along and work well with the staff. You will need to be able to work with patients to get them appointments they want without overbooking the dentist. You need to be good with a schedule and be able to make the dentist as well as the clients happy. As a receptionist you will also be required to work with the insurance companies so that you can get the payments. You will be required to collect payments from customers and collect on past due accounts as well.

Dental jobs that are reception oriented involve a lot of paperwork as well. Paperwork can be extensive for insurance companies and it may seem like a lot of work to keep you busy.

When you look for the dental job listing you want to think about where you want to work. If you have no experience you may need to find the practice that is willing to give you on the job training. Most dental offices don’t care about the experience or knowledge as long as you can come to work on time and you are friendly with the customers. You must be able to communicate verbally and in writing with customers, insurance companies, the dentist, and other staff members.

If you have the experience of dental jobs then you will be able to work in almost any dental office. As long as you haven’t burned any bridges you will be able to work with any dentist. This means you can work in any town you want to. Most towns have a dental office. If you are in the city then you can find dental jobs all over the place. You will not be required to hold a degree as an assistant nor will you have to have a lot of experience. Most dental offices need help and they will not require anything else but you to show up at work on time every day.
