Profile

Full-time instructor is needed for dental hygiene program. The instructor will be responsible for teaching dental hygiene related course curriculum in both the classroom and lab/clinical setting while supporting the Howard Community College and Dental Hygiene Program Mission and Initiatives.
Other Duties Include:
Keeping record of equipment repairs and monitoring systems
Curriculum development and management plan
Assisting with on-going review process and dental hygiene program accreditation process
Solicitation for student enrichment sites
Implementing and instructing the following areas: OSHA, infection control and blood-borne pathogens, and HIPAA
Attend faculty, Division, and Advisory Board meetings and student orientation sessions
General and administrative duties as determined by Health Sciences Division Chair & Dental Hygiene Program Director
Student advising, evaluation and feedback
Attend professional development sessions and faculty learning communities, community events and become a member of a college committee
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
Registered Dental Hygienist with a Master's Degree in Dental Hygiene from a regionally accredited institution or currently enrolled in a Master's Degree program
Five years or more clinical experience and three years experience in education, preferred
Active license to practice as a registered hygienist in the State of Maryland with current CE requirements necessary for dental hygiene license in Maryland.
Licensed in administering local anesthesia for dental hygiene practice
Candidate must be familiar with American Dental Association Accreditation standards/guidelines and laws governing dental hygiene practice in the state of Maryland
Current CPR/BSL certification
Current dental radiology license
Member of the American Dental Hygienists' Association
Teaching experience with a background in education theory & practice
Current knowledge relative to subjects teaching
Current dental hygiene clinic practice experience
Certified dental assistant experience, preferred
Knowledge of technology used in dental hygiene and education
Experience in dental software & digital radiography
Certification/continuing education in monitoring of nitrous oxide for dental hygiene practice, preferred
Skills & Abilities:
Strong organizational and writing abilities
Attention to detail
Excellent advising/counseling skills
Preferred knowledge of working chair- side assisting, infection control, sterilization techniques, dental radiology protocol, laboratory skills and teaching
Experience in curriculum developing and curriculum management plan
Ability to collaborate with other dental hygiene program faculty, staff and administrators
Able to meet deadlines
Flexible, able to work outside of traditional work hours
Other Qualifications:
Dentrix software knowledge
Dexis radiology software knowledge
