This position is a non-licensed/non-certified staff member authorized to provide patients with basic care, non-medicinal comfort measures and activities of daily living. They may also be assigned other duties that are not direct patient care such as re-stocking supplies on the division to meet specified essential nursing division needs. They will perform duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with St. Lukeu2019s mission and values. Responsibilities:nAssist patients with mobility needspatient transfersturn and reposition in bedassist patient to bathroom/commode/up to chairassist with ambulationtransport patients to tests in other hospital locationsUtilize u201clift equipmentu201d when it is appropriate, in a safe mannerPerform patient care activities to include, but not limited to:skin care, oral hygiene, and personal hygieneprovides bedpan or urinal as neededweigh patientobtain/serve oral fluids and nourishments, record intakefeed patients when needed/assist with ordering meals when neededcollects meal tray and place in Food & Nutrition cartobtain patient vital signs (temp, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, SAO2 and pain level) as orderedempty Foley catheters, drains and ostomy bags, record outputassist with postmortem carerespond to patient call lightsdocument patient care information as directedrestocks rooms & isolation equipmentu201cSitu201d with patient requiring 1:1 monitoring (Suicide or extremely confused patient)Transport supplies to other departments, when necessary, primarily if tube system is downAct as a u201crunneru201d to retrieve or transport supplies during Code Blue or other emergency situationsAssist in keeping the environment clean and free of clutter.Update white boardsProgram u201cresponderu201dPerform other work duties as assigned.n nTHESE DUTIES REQUIRE ONGOING VALIDATION FOR COMPETENCY. YEARLY PARTICIPATION IN PROGRAMS ON STANDARD PRECAUTIONS, BLOOD BORNE PATHOGENS AND FIRE AND SAFETY ARE REQUIRED. SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF A CPR CLASS IS REQUIRED EVERY TWO YEARS. nKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:nSuccessful completion of orientation classes as deemed by Clinical Education.Successful completion of Basic Life Support (CPR) with renewal required every two years.Verbal and cognitive ability.May be required to rotate shifts because of hospital's 24 hour per day 7 days a week operation. May be required to work on other patient care units as needed.Able to address specific age-related needs of the patient.Maintain a clean & safe environment.Annual completion related to PCA competency developed by division managers and Clinical Education.Annual completion of mandatory programs in Care Learning.nEducationnHigh School Diploma or GED Required
