Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Provides for care, comfort and safety of assigned patients under close direction of registered nurse. In doing so, positions patients, performs complete and partial baths, assists patients in dressing, oral hygiene, ambulation and so forth, makes beds, etc. Completes annual competencies as directed by Unit Director.
Performs and records basic nursing care procedures such as enemas, collection of routine specimens, vital signs, intake and output, foley and CBI care and daily weights in accordance to detailed procedures.
Observes patients and reports reactions or changes in condition to appropriate nursing personnel.
Answers call lights to determine patient needs, responds to patient requests, and/or relays to RN or LPN responsible for patient's care. Transfers patients, beds and patient care equipment to other rooms, adhering to safety precautions.
Completes various errands as requested such as retrieving and delivering supplies, pharmaceuticals, x-rays, specimens, instruments, test results, and so forth.
Assists Birthing Center staff with setting up instrument tables and, upon completion of delivery, assists in cleaning up delivery table, baby corner, and room. Prepares birthing rooms by checking oxygen and suction set-ups in baby corner and mother’s headboard and checking baby corner set-up in C/Section room.
Transports dismissed patients from patient room to vehicle, making appropriate stops according to dismissal procedure.
Transports patients from Admissions and Emergency area to patient room, as appropriate. Also transports Birthing Center patients to and from Ultrasound as needed.','!*!Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
License/Certification
State of Nebraska Certified Nursing Assistant certification required. Additional unit-specific knowledge is obtained through orientation, checklists and competency testing.
BLS or BLS instructor certification is required upon hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include the following: American Red Cross: CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, and American Heart Association: Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
