Entry Level Dental Jobs description

In an entry-level dental job, most dental graduates usually start out as dental assistants. They provide different types of patient care, office duties, and laboratory duties. The new graduates are required to have good manual dexterity, work well with others, and must be consistent.

The entry-level jobs for students graduating in dentistry span across a variety of positions that include assisting: Orthodontists, who are involved with straightening teeth; Oral and maxillofacial surgeons, who are involved with operating on the mouth and jaws; Pediatric dentists, who focus on dentistry for children; Periodontists, who are involved with treating gums and bone; Prosthodontists, who are involved with replacing missing teeth with permanent fixtures; Endodontists, who are involved with performing root canal therapy; Public health dentists, who are involved with promoting good health in the community; Oral pathologists, who are involved with studying oral diseases; and Oral and maxillofacial radiologists, involved with diagnosing diseases in the neck.

Few office duties that an entry-level dental applicant can look forward to undertake are: scheduling and confirming appointments; receiving patients; keeping treatment records; sending bills and receiving payments; and ordering supplies and materials.

Laboratory duties will include: making casts of the teeth and mouth from impressions; cleaning and polishing removable appliances; and making temporary crowns.
